Description: A nice example of a pairWorld War Two Royal Naval-issue Flexible Frame Spectaclesfor wear under theService Respirator1942-1945 Measuring approx 4.5" acrossand with the lenses having a light prescription, the glass for each eye is clear & unscratchedand comes complete with their named hard case. The arms are incredibly bendy so allowing the face-maskto still effect a tight fit over the spectacles, whilst the ear-pieces are constructed in flexible wirethat still retain their spring. Named to an Engine Room Artificer White (of Mess 13) aboard HMS Superb, the ID card, issued in 1942, also showsanother named matelot, aBoiler Room ERA Long (of Mess No.9)underneath, so one or both matelots were transferred to the newly commissioned HMS Superbafter service as ship's company elsewhere. (Though why one matelot's name replaced another as a stuck in paper label rather than a new card being issued, is unknown!) HMS Superb (25)was a Minotaur Class Light Cruiserlaid down in August 1943 and entered service at war's end in 1945;but after a short & unremarkable career, was decommissioned in 1957 after just 12 years service... and scrapped in 1960! As a result, all future light-cruiser update plans were shelved in favour of the new incoming guided-missile cruisersnow entering the post-WW-II Royal Navy A cracking piece of WW-II personal kit, for the short-sighted Royal Naval matelot...!
