This rare issue was published as part of the University’s Bulletin series and predates by just more than a year later, in November of 1924, the launching of the stand-alone Alumni Magazine of Washington and Lee University. This Bulletin features an article on the “new chemical building” which was being built on the site of the old gymnasium and was opened the following year. The upcoming football game against Virginia figures prominently in this bulletin. The first front-facing endpaper is a form for ordering tickets to the November 3 Virginia game. Several pages describe plans being made by the University’s social fraternities to host alumni reunions. The page facing the Table of Contents provides football schedules for the Varity and Freshmen teams. Includes a one page description of Wilson Field and a full-page rendering of the proposed improvements to the field, which were completed the following year after four years at a cost of $43,000. Improvements to Wilson Field resulted in a 432-foot-long stadium with a seating capacity of 3,000. A section of the bulletin is dedicated to “Football Prospects.” Also features a photo of football “Captain ‘Eddie’ Cameron.” Edmund M. Cameron (1902-1988) was a fullback at Washington and Lee. He was captain of both the basketball and football teams, and tied for the national scoring title in football. After college, Cameron had a long career in coaching and as an athletic director. He served as the head basketball coach at Washington and Lee University and at Duke. Cameron was also the head football coach at Duke University from 1942 to 1945, tallying a mark of 25–11–1, and the athletic director at the school from 1951 to 1972. See photo of Table of Contents for additional content.Provenance: Typed across the top edge of the front cover is “Mr. Malcolm G. Bruce, South Boston, Virginia.” Malcolm Graeme Bruce (1869-1948) was born at "Berry Hill," the family estate. With some 3,600 acres (1,500 ha) at its height, the plantation was one of the largest in Virginia. Bruce received his law degree from Washington and Lee University. He is buried in the family graveyard at "Berry Hill." Condition: The binding is sound. The cover is toned and has some wear, including minor chipping, bumped corners, and some creasing.
