Description: Vintage or antique solid sterling silver medium-sized but sturdy (approx. 1 1/2" tall with bale and jump ring; weight approx. 3.5 g) Crucifix pendant featuring a traditional Slavonic Orthodox design with iconic images and symbols including the Crucified Savior with the Most Holy Theotokos (Mother of God) and Ever-Virgin Mary and Saint John the Evangelist on the sides, whereas the top part displays the Holy Spirit depicted as a dove, and the skull (Adam's head) with the two Instruments of the Passion below the Savior's Cross. The reverse displays Church Slavonic words of the Troparion (Orthodox hymn) to the Holy Cross inscribed in Cyrillic letters. The soldered jump ring of the pendant bears the "925" hallmark indicating the "sterling" purity. It has been confirmed using the silver acid test. The pendant has visual vintage or antique appearance with signs of aging and wear that might include diminished quality of the artwork, deformations of its original shape, scratches, dents, and patches of discoloration/dark patina. The space just above Savior's hands and below the Holy Spirit icon displays the Sacred Name of Jesus Christ inscribed as the "IC XC" Greek Christogram, the "IC" on the left, and the "XC" on the right. Another abbreviation made in smaller letters just below the central horizontal crossbar of the Savior's Cross translates as "Son of God". Next to it and parallel to the vertical crossbar of the Savior's Cross, there are small images of the two Instruments of the Passion which are subjects to adoration along with the Cross, the Holy Lance (spear) of a Roman soldier and the Holy Sponge attached to the end of a cane. The bottom end of the vertical crossbar has the Greek "NIKA" ("VICTORIOUS") inscription made in a mixed Cyrillic transliteration as "NИKA", an ancient symbol of Christ's victory over sin and death achieved on the Cross. The power of sin and death defeated by Jesus is also visualized using a symbolic image of the skull, or Adam's head, buried in a cave below the Savior's Cross. The skull is marked with two Cyrillic letters, "ГA" meaning "Head of Adam". The image refers to Golgotha (Calvary), the elevated site where Jesus was crucified, which the Bible says means "the place of the skull" in Hebrew. According to ancient tradition of the Church, it was also the burial place of the first man, Adam. The reverse shows abbreviated Church Slavonic text of the Troparion (Orthodox hymn) to the Holy Cross beginning with "КРЕСТУ ТВОЕМУ..."
