Description: Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome. You are looking at a somewhat rarer microphone that doesn't come around on Ebay or Reverb too often. This is a Turner Dynamic model 57 microphone manufactured in the 1950's for about 10 years and was sold for broadcasting and T.V purposes. The mic was a higher end piece with a radical newer look for the company. The design was slim and modern for it's time and extended far out towards the singer or broadcaster allowing more space between the stand and the user. Pic # 2 shows this very model in an old Turner catalog I have along with it's basic characteristics and price. This 57 comes with a short period Cannon cable and a 60's era Atlas DS-14 model desk stand. The 57 model was dual Z depending on how it's wired in the cable but this example is set at high impedance as many were at that time. This mic has a unique XLR schematic. This mic does take a standard XLR cable but the mics had a different schematic when made at the factory so a typical XLR cable won't work on this mic unless it's wired correctly. The short XLR cable provided is wired correctly so you can attach any longer standard XLR cable of choice. You have to use the short XLR cable provided however. If you don't use the short XLR cable provided the mic won't work. Turner used the different schematic for several years before making the # 2 pin positive like the rest of the industry was. As you can see the overall cosmetic finish of this Turner 57 looks good. Typical small scratches & scuff marks in the stock black paint but there are zero dents or fractures. The screen has no deformation or tarnish. The 57's lower satin chrome pistol grip is very good as is the Turner badge (completely legible) and there plenty of tension that is adjustable. The mic is appx 9 3/4 inches long X 1 inch wide and weighs virtually nothing. Uber lite weight. In my own opinion I would give her a solid 7 + on a scale of 1 - 10. The short period Cannon cable is soft, pliable and in great shape. Again, wired correctly. Just attach any longer XLR cable of choice as an extension to your audio equipment. The mic will screw onto any desk or floor stand though a stand is provided and really compliments the 57. The stand is almost period to the mic and would have been matched up at some point in time. It's a 60's era Atlas "boomerang" stand. Model DS-14 made of cast iron and having a very modern look for that time. It makes a stable platform for the 57 and looks fantastic. The original paint shows virtually no wear and I added 3 new felt pads as the originals were all but missing. The chrome riser looks excellent as well. With the mic on top of the base it's appx 13 inches tall when raised fully upright. As with all my vintage microphones for sale... I can promise you will be happy with it for the price paid.
