The USS Snook (SSN-592) was a submarine in the United States Navy that was named after the common snook, a bluish-gray fish with a black lateral line that is found in the Atlantic Ocean. The keel for the Snook was laid down on April 7, 1958 at Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, Mississippi, and the submarine was launched on October 31, 1960 with Mrs. George L. Walling as its sponsor. The Snook was commissioned on October 24, 1961, with Commander Howard Bucknell III as its commanding officer.
