Description: MAKER: Blank by Tressemanes & Vogt, Limoges France, circa first half of the 20c. Piece was decorated sometime in the 1940's it appears. MATERIAL: Porcelain PIECE NAME: WWII Era Trophy Tankard or Mug DESCRIPTION: Upon first glance I thought this was a memento mori made to commemorate the death of a child/children named Charlie who died at the age of 7. Upon comparing the partial obfuscated date and rereading the dedication "C.J.B. March 3rd 194* (unknown last digit) In Memory of the Charlies Just 7. Today." It appears that this was something of a war trophy/trench art dedicated to those that the soldier had killed that day. DIMENSIONS: 5 7/8" by 3" across mouth WEIGHT: 1lb 1.8oz CONDITION: An underglaze chip to the foot rim dates from manufacture or at least before it was decorated.
