Description: Item Description: This pot has been beautifully crafted by San Felipe Pueblo potters Ricardo and Victoria Ortiz. The pot is signed on the bottom. It measures 6 1/8" across and 3.5" high. The pot has a beautifully painted squash blossom design. There are a couple of raised circles on the bottom for the protection of the pot. The condition is excellent. Ricardo and his wife won the first-place award for Native Clay Hand Built pottery at the 2008 Heard Museum Guild Indian Fair and Market. The art of pottery making was passed down through Ricardo's family - both of his grandparents were well known potters beginning in the 1950s. The San Felipe Pueblo is about 25 miles north of Albuquerque along the Rio Grande. Ricardo and his wife use natural materials that are native to the San Felipe pueblo area. The body of the pottery is a mixture of clay and volcanic ash. The slip or the background of each piece is all-natural clay. The paint used for the design is a mixture of bee weed and wild honey. River washed rocks found along the Rio Grande River are used to provide the high gloss finish. Please click here to check out our EBAY STORE.
