It can also grow in greenhouses or large pots and harvested before a winter freeze. The best time to plant in USDA zones 8-11 is from October- March and that is usually our main season for Cane offerings.'SAN DIEGO YELLOW' Its a strong vigorous upright grower has great commercial qualities. Its likely a modern hybridized cane that has become popular in California for the fresh press juice market. Please note this cane is the hardest in our collection and its not a chewing or easy to peel type. We got this cane variety from a california grower who said its common in the markets there. It can handle a dryer climate making it a recommendation for folks with less water. Make a nice lemon lime colored green juice when pressed ,and good sweetness up to avg 18-22 BRIX (sugar)Our heirloom sugar cane is organically grown, and we send fresh cut pieces 6-8" long of ready for planting. *Planting Instructions*Bury the cutting about 3" below your soil if directly planting in the ground (zone 8 or warmer). Mulch and let the cutting root in. the cane will sprout and come up in the spring as it warms with a established root system.For starting the cane cutting in a pot: Bury the cutting about 2" below the soil laying on its side horizontally.
