Description: Rare Vintage Wedgwood Black Basalt and Terracotta Egyptian Theme Lidded Trinket Box C1970's DetailsHeight : 3.5cmDiameter : 9.8cmWeight : 303gm This vintage Wedgwood black basalt (basalt ware) lidded trinket box is in as new conditionwith no chips or cracks. The applied terracotta decoration is intact. According to those moreknowledgeable than I, the lid features a depiction of Ankhesenamun, daughter of Nefertiti, both half sister and wife of King Tutankhamun. The circumference of the lid is adorned withflower heads, the sides with wings which look like the wings of the sphinx. It is stamped'Wedgwood' to the base very faintly. Black basalt or basalt ware is a hard vitreous stoneware named after the volcanic rock andwas manufactured by Josiah Wedgwood from around 1768.
