This has been refurbished and modernized, It sounds amazing, with warm tube fidelity. This is the highly collectible "Gull Wing" model. I kept the original tube amplifier and speakers. I feel that these older turntables that were originally in these consoles are horrible. They are high maintenance, prone to mechanical failure, and just don't sound good. Also they track heavy, digging into the vinyl grooves with high tracking force,.. thus carving up your precious records. Take into mind that turntables from the 50's and early 60's were limited to the technology of the era,.. and turntable and stylus technology improved by leaps and bounds in the following decades. Even a modern inexpensive turntable will out perform a 50's era turntable significantly. Have you ever seen a record with dull grooves ? Dull grooves don't sound as good,..the fideity is muffled. Records in this condition have usually been worn down by a heavy needle. Newer turntables , with their better tracking technology, and lighter stylus tracking ., are safer for vinyl. They will not wear down your vinyl. For the new turntable,.. I installed the most appropriate turntable I could find that would fit in this space ,. This turntable has user accessible top controls. It will play 33 and 45 records. A 45 adapter is included. The turntable model is Jensen JTA-230R, and it is brand new with new unused needle. This plays records perfectly, does not skip, tracks lightly ( at the recommended 2.5 grams stylus force ) ,.. and sounds amazing. This console design does not have a built in tuner, but I installed a stereo bluetooth receiver,.. and you can stream music directly from your phone with this receiver. For example, you could use a free app like Iheart Radio for any radio station from anywhere in the world that you want to hear,.. no static at all. ,... or stream music from any streaming source like Youtube, Spotify, Apple music. This bluetooth receiver also sounds amazing. I also installed a push button switcher so you can switch from turntable to bluetooth. This unit utilizes a three speaker design, with a center sub woofer. This was a very innovative design for the era. .This sounds strong on both stereo channels with equal balance. All controls have been electronically spray cleaned for static free operation. I do not know if this has original tubes, but I did not modify anything or put new tubes in it,.. , as I feel it sounds great as it is. This has a storage space for records. The cabinet is in excellent shape for it's 70+ years of age, with a few small scratches,. but nothing horrible. I did not re finish this,... I figured I would leave it up to the buyer to touch up or finish the cabinet of to your liking. This measures 35" W 17" D 32" T when closed. With doors open, it measures 70" wide.
