Description: Ref. A1101/4 Stainless Steel Exhibition case back Automatic (self-winding) movement Case size: 42mm x 13.5mm Full set (box, certificate, manual) It would be unfair to apply the term "unfortunately" to the history of the company, Perrelet, considering its current status as a completely in-house manufacturer of both its movements and core components but it wouldn't be unfair to admit the name, Perrelet, has not commanded the notoriety and historical relevance it has earned with regard to the patents and mechanical genius of its founder, Abraham-Louis Perrelet. Following his invention of the self-winding mechanism (aka automatic movement) in 1777 that today is ubiquitous and, more aptly, functionally unchanged since its invention; Abraham-Louis passed along his knowledge, skill-set and influence to his grandson Louis-Frederic who studied in Breguet's workshops after discovering that his interest in astronomy, physics and science coincided well with the watchmaking pioneering days of his time. Louis-Frederic went on to establish himself as an inventor, collaborator and innovator whereby he is given the rank of Knight of the Legion of Honor. So, with that said, the name Perrelet was not originally associated as a watchmaking company. Hence, Perrelet remained somewhat overshadowed by several of the forefathers of modern watchmaking including Breguet (the inventor of the tourbillon) with whom he collaborated and refined the modern day rotor winding mechanism. Today, Perrelet HAS cemented itself as a true in-house made movement manufacturer and patent holder of the double rotor winding system. The introduction of the turbine model in 2009 stems from the dial side oscillating rotor that now serves as a striking aesthetic and artistically unique creation. Whether you fall for it immediately or become mesmerized by it in action, you will certainly want to keep an eye on Perrelet. The Dual Time Big Date and three hand Lab Peripheral editions are stunning pieces. With COSC certified movements and a massive marketing machine behind the brand led by Miguel Rodriguez, get your hands on one of the Turbine editions before you are blown away by the collectors one step ahead of you.
