Description: It is rare that I keep a piece of unknown art history. I made a definite and happy exception here. Now I hope that someone else's knowledge and research brings them great value and satisfaction. I offer an original watercolor painting which I believe to be civil war era and possibly is a rendition of Johnny Clem. I have attached a couple known photos of Clem for comparison. The painting is signed G V W but I have never been able to trace the artist. This work is 20" x 12" on heavy paper and holds very powerful emotion. It is a primitive expressionist work. Sometimes there are great artists, and other times average artists just have a great moment. I cannot tell you into which catagory this work falls, but it is certainly one or the other. In random locations the original pencil outline sketch is visable under the watercolors. In any case I hope my listing uncovers the true artist's name and finds it an equally appreciative home as mine was. Always protective free shipping, a charity donation, and the best offer format for all fair buyer considerations.
