Description: P668 germination medium: this is an all-purpose germination medium that works well for a broad range of epiphytic orchids. Generally a decent medium for tropical terrestrial species when diluted (note: you'll need to add proportionately more agar for this, or purchase our half strength P668 medium, also sold on eBay): paphiopedilums, phragmipediums. Not recommended for temperate terrestrials such as cypripedium (see our other media for that genus). This is the old standby based on Murashige and Skoog salt base with 20 grams of sugar and all the other goodies (inositol, peptone, B vitamins- the whole kitchen sink is in there). Inexpensive and reliable. Contains gelling agent (agar). Add water to 1 liter final volume, mix thoroughly, pour, and autoclave. One liter of medium makes 25-40 baby food jar mother flasks. Autoclave an entire batch, and when they have cooled put them in a clean plastic shoebox for storage; they last about 4-6 months if the lid is on tight. Pull down a jar for each mother flask you wish to make: quick, easy, simple, and efficient- a rare combination. Please note: Orchid seed germination is a technical matter. If you are not familiar with the process, I recommend looking up some videos on YouTube, and doing some web searches for more information before buying media.
