Description: One More Time: A Memoir by Carol Burnet (1986) First Ed. Editorial Reviews Book Description Carol Burnett spent most of her childhood in a Depression-scarred Hollywood neighborhood, where she lived in a single-room apartment with her endearingly batty grandmother, Nanny, a hypochondriacal Christian Scientist with a buried past. The child of two alcoholic parents, Burnett presents a sometimes hilarious, sometimes heartbreaking coming-of-age: from her sadly hopeful mother, who was hooked on Tinseltown fantasy, to the first signs of her own comic gift; from happy weekends spent with her father, to their last tragic meeting in a public sanatorium. Featuring a new Afterword by the author, about teaming up with her daughter to bring this story to Broadway, One More Time is an intimate, touching, and astonishing narrative of a financially desperate but emotionally rich childhood on the wrong side of Hollywood’s tracks. Review I wish I read this when it was first written in the 80's !!! I was raised by my grandparents and dealt with poverty and alcoholism in the family as well as abandonment by my mom. If I would have read this book in my teens when it was first released I would have actually found Carol Burnett as the only person I could have related to. At that time it's like no one understood me. I was a teen of the 80's; child of the 70's so different times. Carol isn't just a celebrity writing an autobiography; but a real novelist. Carol is a REAL writer. Her descriptions, prose, mood setting....everything is a novelist at work. I couldn't put the book down. She should write fiction or anything; I'd read all of her books.
