As a result of this process the hollow spheres of the Bubble Alumina has a low bulk density and extremely low thermal conductivity. Bubble Alumina is chemically inert. The melting point is approximately 2000 °C. Bubble Alumina may also be used for low density aggregate in cast refractory shapes, loose insulation fill for fiber optic glass production furnaces and other glass furnaces as well. It can be used as a loose bulk, insulation material in complex or occluded cavities, for leveling materials on hearths, or as intermediate insulation in furnaces operating to temperatures as high as 2000 °C.
