This was Styron's first novel, written when he was 26 years old, and it received a great deal of critical acclaim. Among the honors bestowed on it, was the prestigious Rome Prize, awarded by the American Academy in Rome and the American Academy of Arts and Letters. The novel is about the dysfunctional Virginian Loftis family. It centers on the funeral of Peyton Loftis, one of the daughters, with previous events told in flashbacks by the other characters. Overall, the book is in Good Condition. There is an original jacket and it is not price clipped. It does have some stains and chips and tearing along the edges. Some wear and discoloration to the boards. Internally, it is firmly bound and there is light wear to the pages. Other dings here and there.
