Description: This is the very scarce -signed- 1936 Nonesuch Press/ Heritage Press edition of Leaves Of Grass by Walt Whitman, with Rockwell Kent's tremendous woodcuts. One of 1,000 copies signed by Rockwell Kent. Set in Linotype Bodoni typeface and printed by Lakeside Press on wove paper. Full green morocco cover with gilt. Missing slipcase. This collaboration, one of just two between Rockwell Kent and George Macy's Limited Editions Club/ Heritage Press (Macy disagreed with Kent's politics), was an enormous success. It probably should have been a Limited Editions Club book, but Macy had already published Leaves Of Grass in 1929 (and would again in 1942). Very hard to find one of these, as the green morocco used for the covers is notoriously fragile. This copy, as most, shows wear at the crown and bottom of spine as well as at the corners. But it's still sturdy, and seems to be in better shape than most. A rare find.
