Elaborately gilt decorated brown cloth, with title on spine and also on front cover - the latter also incorporating a design of grape vines, guitar and tambourines. Front cover signed: J. Morato. Rear cover has publisher's emblem in gilt with motto 'Ex fumo dare lumen' and initials 'N R'. Wear to top and bottom of spine. Rubbing along spine edges and top front of spine starting to lift up. All page edges gilt. Foxing/toning to first and last 10 pages. Main body of text quite clean. Illustrated with 57 lithographs with labeled tissue-guards plus within text illustrations. Some tearing/staining to some tissue guards. 13" x 10" with 499 pages plus index. It weighs 9 lbs.
