Description: Ciao! Manhattan (Three original photographs from the 1972 film) Author: Edie Sedgwick, Isabel Jewell, Paul America, Baby Jane Holzer, Viva, Roger Vadim (starring); John Palmer, David Weisman (directors, screenwriters) Title: Ciao! Manhattan (Three original photographs from the 1972 film) Publication: N.p. N.p., Circa 1972 Description: Three vintage studio still photographs from the 1972 film, one showing actress Edie Sedgwick, one showing Sedgwick with actress Pat Hartley, and one showing a bedroom set. An avant-garde film closely based on Sedgwick's own life, featuring many Warhol superstars playing themselves, about a young woman's time in the Manhattan party scene, followed by mental and physical deterioration due to escalating drug use. In the throes of her own real-life drug addiction, Sedgwick became increasingly unstable throughout 1967, and often went missing during shooting, forcing production to be suspended. Several years in and out of hospitals and institutions followed, and in 1970, residing on a ranch in Arcadia, California, with live-in care provided by director John Palmer and his wife, Sedgwick became determined to finish the project, shooting more footage in a much reduced state, and recording hours of audio footage that would become the film's narrative voiceover. Filming wrapped in early 1971, and Sedgwick died in November of the same year from an overdose. The film was released in 1972 to much acclaim, only to disappear for nearly a decade. Interest in having it restored came with the 1982 publication of the Sedgwick biography by George Plimpton and Jean Stein, and in 2002, 30 years after its original premiere, the new version screened at New York's Cinema Village. In October of 2002, Plexifilm released a special edition DVD with additional 35mm outtake footage, rare pictures taken on the set, and interviews with the cast and crew of the film.Set in New York, shot on location in New York City, in Malibu, Arcadia, and Los Angeles, California, in White Twp and Fort Lee, New Jersey, and Tannersville, Pennsylvania.9.5 x 7.25 inches.
