Ingrid Ruin (1881–1956) Important female impressionist Finnish painter. Ruin was a Nordic pioneer since she painted women naked, something that was very rarely done by women artists at her time. She began her artistic career in 1897 at the Ateneum, where the Finnish Art Society’s Drawing School ran a preparatory class. In 1901, Ingrid Ruin moved to Copenhagen in order to study at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. After completing her studies, she became a private student of for two of the biggest names in Nordic turn-of-the-century art, Albert Edelfelt and Anders Zorn. The studies for Edelfelt were conducted in 1903-05 and then she came to Anders Zorn, 1905-1911 where she was not only a student for a long time but also worked as Zorn's assistant, a trust that shows how much Zorn valued the young artist's talents. Her works were first exhibited in 1906 in Helsinki. Ruin took part in the Finnish Artists' group exhibitions in 1907 and 1908. She worked and traveled in Central Europe, including Germany, France and Italy and had exhibitions in Berlin, Copenhagen, Oslo, Berlin and Rome. Ingrid Ruin is best known for her nudes and portraits. Ruin also painted a lot of national romantic themes, particularly women. These influences on her art came from Anders Zorn. Ruin in Finland has been relatively unknown until her first retrospective exhibition in 2005 Riihimäki Art Museum. The museum also published a book on her life. Ingrid Ruin is today represented in the Serlachius Foundation in Helsinki. Shipping fees: United States/ Canada: 45 dollars. ( delivery time: About 3 - 5 working days.)
