Description: France 20th c: A Valley in Provence, Listed Female Artist, Fine A river valley with mountains in the background is the subject of this fine watercolor on light cardboard by a listed French woman artist with a real flair, Claire Guibert (1924-2018). I obtained a small group of her pictures at a recent Paris auction, and this one is among the best. In my opinion Ms. Guibert may have made this picture in Provence, France -- the cypress trees are a strong indication -- and the mountain range we are looking at is perhaps the north face of the Luberon. At any rate there is a lot of poetry here. There is an interesting footnote to this gifted woman's work: She had a busy career in another field, the cinema, and was the French-speaking voice, in the 1950's, of Marilyn Monroe and Doris Day! Personally, I am also very glad that she was an active visual artist. Dimensions are about 9.5 inches by 12 inches. There is no signature but I am happy to guarantee the authenticity. Condition is very good. Very moderately priced for something of genuine quality. Shipping within the U.S. will be $8. And to see what else I have for sale, please click here.
