Description: *Special Auction: (See notation at end of listing) This 925 silver wrestling award was created by an award winning greek based artist/ silversmith. It is a bas relief medallion hand inset into a pure white marble base, and comes in a beautiful green presentation case. The piece depicts two 5th century BC wrestlers in competition. This fine art piece was presented to the coaching staff of a United States freestyle club team invited to Greece for a friendly competition in Athens. Although the entire coaching staff of 5, including 2 assistant and two skills coaches each, received one of these honorifics, we have only one to auction off. On a side rant: Unlike awards of today, with the exception of Olympic medals, awards that honor extensive amounts of effort,sacrafice and training, just aren't featuring valuable materials these days , and it's a sad commentary on our times. This silver medallion comes from a vast collection from a coach and friend who has wrestled and coached the sport for over 26 years. Aside from mentoring my wrestling, he was instrumental in encouraging my work in skills coaching. With a downturn in his health, we discussed offering his collection on ebay to help defray some of his non covered medical expenses. * The Special Auction Label in my listings designates these related auction pieces mostly from his collection with the proceeds going toward helping Bill the coaches son and Johns wife Johanna with ancillary medical expenses related to his alzheimers treatment, so please bid generously knowing that it is for a good cause, a great friend, mentor and coach, and a fantastic human being!
