Description: I am offering this rare set of five (5) Lustre Art Glass shades. This set has graced the walls of each of the historic homes we have owned over the last four decades, and I have so enjoyed the aesthetic beauty and one-of-a-kind glow that only these old shades can produce. I am only selling them because we are now downsizing to smaller quarters in our retirement, and I simply will not have the wall space in which to display these American-made beauties. Lustre Art Glass Company was founded in Long Island, New York in 1920, and made art glass shades from 1920 to 1923. Lustre Art shades of that era were hand-blown, and each ribbed and scallop-edged shade is comprised of a fine pearlized tone of Calcite with five exterior gold Aurene bands, and an iridescent gold aurene lined interior on each shade. Each shade is signed on the receiving (lip) end with the authentic Lustre Art signature of the time (see photos). In the design of the Art Nouveau period, these shades have a crisp design and excellent detail and colors. From age, there are a few typical “flea bites” found on the fitter portion of each shade, but these are hidden from sight within the fitter portion of the fixture, and certainly do not take away from the beauty of each of these shades. Otherwise, all of these shades are in excellent condition, with no signs of damage, cracks or restorations. Each shade measures 5 1/2" tall and has a flaring fitter for standard 2 1/4" hardware.
