Description: Encephalartos Nubimontanus Blue Mountain Cycad. You're buying one 1-2 leaf seedling grown in 3x3x9 inch bands. Will be shipped bare root with moist sphagnum moss wrapped in clear wrap and foil paper. Packed with care. Native to the Limpopo province in South Africa where they grew in the Wolkberg Mountains. Unfortunately due to excessive poaching Nubimontanus is extinct in the wild. Nubimontanus grew in mixed deciduous woodland & on cliffs ledges in direct sunlight usually at an elevation of about 1000 meters (3000 ft.) A small to medium sized Encephalartos growing up to 8ft. usually with multiple suckers at the base. Forms numerous leaves with a dense crown, leaves are strongly glaucous & curved backward and downwards. Like most Encephalartos, Encephalartos Nubimontanus requires good drainage. Mound plant to increase drainage and prevent possible root rot issues. Can tolerate wetter conditions better than some of the other blue Encephalartos. Prefers full sun to part shade. Protect against wind & frost to not damage the leaves. Nubimontanus are an extremely handsome Encephalartos. The gray-blue leaves are striking. A rare & sought after Encephalartos, although extinct from its natural habitat there's plenty out there in collections to keep them from ever disappearing.
