Description: Hi PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY AND IN ITS ENTIRETY BEFORE YOU PURCHASE! I have been collecting baseball cards since 1957. That makes me old. (I once had 47 1957 Willie Mays Topps cards that I collected and traded for as a kid. I also had 18 of Mays' 1958 Topps card. When I was away at college, I came home for semester break, reached into my father's empty El Producto cigar box--where I had stored the Mays cards--and the box was empty. That was in 1967. I asked my dad about the cards. "Oh, did you want those," he replied. Yes, he had tossed them in the trash months before. Here's the thing that hurts the most. All of my 71 Mays cards I had collected were near mint to mint and most were fairly well centered. Back in the late 1960s, there was virtually no money in pieces of cardboard with photos of baseball (or football, hockey or basketball) players, but collecting was fun. Anyway, I try not to think of the value today of the Mays cards and I still love my father who died 47 years ago. But still... When I resumed collecting card in the early 1980s, I vowed to protect my cards and to look for someone to invest in. In 1989, I decided on Ken Griffey, Jr. His father was a good player and I thought the gene pool was always improving so I bought a lot of Ken Griffey, Jr.'s Upper Deck rookie card. I plan to leave each of my 4 children at least 50 of this card. In the meantime, while I am alive, I have to earn a living. This is NOT my hobby. This is how I have to earn a living for the past 28 years, including the last 24 years on eBay. This is a Buy It Now listing for eight beautiful 1989 Upper Deck Ken Griffey, Jr. rookie cards. As you undoubtedly know, it is card number 1 in the set. (Originally Upper Deck was going to choose Gary Sheffield as the first card, but they changed their mind in the last days before production. This--like the 1957 Topps Willie Mays card--THE 1989 UPPER DECK KEN GRIFFEY, JR. ROOKIE CARD WILL ALWAYS BE AN ICONIC CARD. Always. The reason: It was the first card of the first set by a company that changed the baseball card hobby forever. This is the last multi-card lot of Griffey I plan to list on eBay before 2026. All of the cards are near mint to mint. Will they all get a 10 if they were graded? Of course not. But they are all gradable cards. Five of the cards are fairly well centered--see the photos. Clean fronts, clean backs. The other three cards are not well centered, but they are beautiful just the same. In the recent past--on eBay and through private sales to dealers I know--I have sold multi-card lots of similar condition Griffey cards for $95 to $105 each. I am sure these dealers got the cards graded. Recently, I have seen non-graded Griffey card lots as high as $400 each. My price for these eight stunning Griffeys is $912.00 That comes to $114 per card. In recent months, this card has increased in value. Why? I think it is because it is truly undervalued as a rookie card in a premier company set that changed the hobby. fn addition, although Upper Deck printed a fair amount of the product, 35 years later it is getting harder to find the card in great condition and BECAUSE DEMAND FOR THIS CARD IS STRONG AND LIKELY TO REMAIN STRONG FOR THE FORSEEABLE FUTURE. I once bought 12 cases of Upper Deck wax boxes (20 boxes per case) back in 1989. A few dealer friends thought it was crazy to pay more than twice as much for Upper Deck than for the other manufacturers. I should have bought more! I still have more than 40 factory sealed 1989 Upper Deck sets that I might start selling next year. I tell you all this not to brag but to make a point. In cards, like most things in life, you get what you pay for. I still firmly believe the 1989 Upper Deck Ken Griffey Jr. rookie card will increase at a faster rate than any of his other rookies.
