Description: This is an etching by Edwin Forbes 1839-1895, with two separate plates, titled “On Picket” & “Washing Day” issued in 1876. Forbes was an American landscape painter and etcher, who gained notoriety during the Civil War for his detailed scenes of battle and everyday life. The etching measures 16” x 10 3/4” behind a new double mat, in the original oak frame that measures 22 1/2”x 17 1/2”. I have seven of these that I will be listing and all were purchased at auction. All are in identical frames and all had newspapers from Boston, dated late 1870’s that protected the etching well. I do have a shop just off Rt. 95 in Southern Rhode Island if you are interested in viewing them.
