The Prince of Wales succeeded to the throne on 20 January 1936 upon the death of his father, King George V.Upon his succession the former prince was now, Edward VIII, by the Grace of God, of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland and of the British Dominions beyond the Seas, King, Defender of the Faith, Emperor of India.The reign of Edward VIII only lasted until 10 December 1936 when he abdicated the throne to lead a private life with his love, Wallis.Upon abdication, the King was granted the title of HRH Edward Duke of Windsor.
