Description: David Bromberg's self-titled debut album back in 1972 featured Bob Dylan on harmonica, George Harrison on slide guitar, Vassar Clements on fiddle, John Hartford on banjo, Randy Scruggs on bass, and a dozen other top notch players -- in other words, the dream team of sidemen. But David, whose only lifelong addictions are music and his wife, Nancy, has only published 19 albums under his own name. He said early on, "I guess I'd rather play along side the poor bastards who have a #1 hit and have to play it every night for the rest of their lives. I think I was born to be a sideman." He started off by playing guitar on tour behind Jerry Jeff Walker for a few years and, seeing Jerry Jeff's self-destructive life confirmed his desire to be a sideman. So David played behind Tom Paxton, Al Kooper, Jerry Jeff, the great Ed Sanders, Richie Havens, Bob Dylan, Carly Simon, John Prine, Gordon Lightfoot, Link Wray, Willie Nelson, Steve Goodman, Kris Kristofferson, Ringo Starr, Doug Sahm, Phoebe Snow, Ravi Shankar, Johnny Shines, The Eagles, Commander Cody, Leon Redbone, and dozens of other music stars who are household names, although, to be fair, it would be easier to make a list of top notch players who DIDN'T play behind Carly Simon. But you get the idea. David Bromberg is quite simply the #1 sideman in American music, and has been for 50 years. He is a top American player on the electric and acoustic guitar, the fiddle, the dobro, the mandolin, and the pedal steel guitar, and he is reasonably proficient on a dozen other instruments. This is one of the 19 albums he put out under his own name, and one of the best. But there's never been a bad David Bromberg album, and there are some top notch players who claim that David has never hit a bad note. The fact that he has always been a good and decent man and a great logistical and financial supporter of Roots music should mean more than it does, but it has always meant a great deal to me. This is my #2 copy of this album in CD format. It has never been played, and has been in my music library, away from cold and heat and sunlight since the early 1990s. The original factory plastic wrap is off, so I can only call it "like new". That's good enough for me. I pack with care and ship promptly; check out my feedback.
