Dante Alighieri's classic poem was brought to the screen with all of the hellish special effects Hollywood could muster in 1924. The semi-nude bodies of the women caused problems for the censors in Hollywood at the time. Dante's poem was a favorite topic for the studios and believe it or not, this was the second version of the film made, the first having been produced in 1911.
