Description: CAPTURED BRITISH S. HARVEY 1786 INFANTRY SWORD, BATTLE OF NORTH POINT, MARYLAND.1814 This British 1786 pattern Infantry sword was found at the position of the British 44th Regiment of Foot on the right side of the British line after the Battle of North Point Maryland, fought on September 12, 1814. It was found by ensign John Sinclair who served in the Baltimore Pateriots, Baltimore Citizens Militia, he was in charge of a squad that picked up any weapons or equiptment for the Maryland Militia. It was isThis sword is 38 1/4” long with an engraved 31 7/8” blade, brass double oval guard, brass wire wrapped grip 8 pommel can. It was made (& maker marked on the right side of the blade S. HARVEY (over) BIRM/m Birmingham) inside of an oval, a figure of a man with a raised sword, a crown , laurel branches & leaves & other militarily designs. The left side is engraved with a pair of large ovals with DIEV MON.DROLT. on the top one & HONI. SOIT ULMLY. PENSE on the bottom one, a standing woman, laurel branches & leaves, a leaf & other designs. It is in good & fairly well used condition with the blade still dully shiny & all the engraving is clear & easy to read. The guard is brass with the double oval design & has a raised design on the front. The arm that connects the brass crown design pommel cap has a raised design at the back design & the grip is wrapped with brass wire. They are in good condition with a dark brass patina & the front of the wire wrap has come loose. It comes with a certificate of authenticity.
