Description: Up for sale is one of numerous postcards I'm listing on eBay from a large collection of PCs from Kennebunkport and Cape Porpoise. All are in good, very good, or excellent condition, and any defects are noted below. Please be sure to email with any questions before buying, and visit our eBay store to see hundreds of vintage photos of Maine locales, as well as maps and charts, cigar labels, and many more collectibles. The postcard in this listing shows the Memorial Tablet, affixed to a huge rock near the pier in Cape Porpoise. The tablet commemorates a fight that occurred on August 8, 1702, when "...A British Ship of 16 Guns Attacked a Small Force of Inhabitants Gathered On Goat Island, and Was Driven Away By Severe Musket Fire, Losing 17 Men. Lieutenant James Burnham of This Town Was Killed." At the bottom is another inscription: "This Tablet Is Erected By the Maine State Council, Daughters of the American Revolution. August 8, 1921." This rare Real Photo Postcard is in very good condition, no marks or defects.
