From packaging PART: This thermostat replaces Therm-O-Disc thermostats of the same model. WARNING: For safe operation of your water heater purchase a thermostat plastic terminal protector. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS: Shut electric power off to water heater. Remove appropriate access panel ( top or bottom) and fold back insulation. Remove plastic terminal protector: Determine which Is your wiring from Fig. 1.2, or 3. Disconnect wires and slide thermostat out of bracket. Place new thermostat in bracket making SURE thermostat fits firmly against tank. Affach wires to new thermostat. Carefully fold insulation back to cover thermostat Replace access panel, then turn electric power on Note color of wires may be different, but wiring locations will be the same. Also, some terminals may require straight in wiring through an eye opening. If wires are now looped re-cut and strip wire 3/8 of an inch to a straight length and insert.
