Description: BORN TO FLY THE STORY OF GENERAL EDWIN RAWLINGS USAF STATED FIRST EDITION 1987 SIGNED HARDCOVER WITH DUST JACKET. Strong binding and clean pages. No rips, tears, or writing (other than the autograph and dedication). The dust jacket shows wear (see pictures) but did a great job of protecting the actual book. Edwin W. Rawlings was born in 1905 in Milroy, Minnesota, and graduated from Hamline University in St. Paul. After college, he went to work for the Dayton Company before joining the Air Corps Reserve and learning to fly. He spent more than 25 years in the Air Force and retired in 1959 as a full Air Force General. During his time in the military, he was the first to help organize the office of the Air Force comptroller, and he brought in the first computer for the Air Force and the Defense Department, the UNIVAC. After leaving the service, he joined General Mills and served as chairman from 1967 to 1969. He left an enduring mark on the company, the big G logo used on General Mills cereal boxes and other packaging. In 1987, he published his autobiography, Born to Fly. He died at the age of 93 in 1997.
