Description: Seed Beads BLUE & WHITE CHEVRON OPAQUE SEED BEADS 12/o-AFRICAN INDIAN TRADE ITALIAN MURANO VENETIAN VINTAGE The variation of size in Murano glass makes it excellent for appliqus & anywhere you need just the right bead size & color! Donut shaped measuring 2mm in diameter. Approximately 17-18 Beads per Inch and approximately 11,200 beads per 100 grams. Picture of bag and wheat penny is 100 grams. Venetian glass seed beads where made between the late1800s-1920s on an island called Murano in Italy by Societa VenezianaConterie. Which was a consortium of 16 independent Venetian glass bead makersthat joined together from 1898 to 1992. Every bead was made by hand whichhelped to keep their world renowned artistry mostly secret. The art of makingthese unique handmade drawn beads was a dangerous & skillful processincluding pulling a molten glass bubble into a long thin cane and then cuttingit into beads & filing them down. Many of the glass canes used formanufacturing these beads date back a lot further than the consortium. We offer mostly antique glass seed beads ranging from size 5/o to 20/o, crow, pony,tile, gooseberries, white hearts, chevrons, & chevron canes which date backto about 1898-1920. While the Murano mosaic beads where manufactured between 1960-1970 and there are very few of those available. Most often these beads were traded to Africa & the Native American Indians for land, gold, slaves and other valuables which is why they are often referred to as trade beads. These were previously uncirculated glass beads, therefore they are all mostly in excellent & clean condition.We have 10 tons available of these beads in a huge variety of colors and sizes in quantities of 1/2 pound to 60 pounds for each type, so keep checking back for new listings. Seed bead refers to any small bead usually being round in shape and ranging in sizes between 1/o (one-aught being the largest of severalmillimeters) to 24/o (the smallest about 1-2 millimeters.) They are most oftenused for stinging, as spacers, in weaving and for embellishment in fiber artsincluding crochet fibers or flexible stringing wire or thread. Bead sizes between 1/o and 4/o or larger can be referred to as crow beads. Sizes of 5/o-6/o are pony beads and everything smaller as seed beads. 16/os and smaller haven't been in production since the 1800s and are usually considered antiques. The very small holes in the centers of most seed beads means that stringing them usually requires the use of a specialized narrow needle referred to as a beading needle. Lots of fun!
