Description: After restoring dozens of BC-611s to working condition I have decided to quit doing so. The parts cost has pushed the restoration price higher than the value of a completed BC-611. Consequently, I am placing my test and last BC-611 up for sale. This is an early BC-611A and is the first “A” model I have ever seen. It has a BC-611-A data plate with a 1942 contract date. Other differences are minor, but of interest. For example, the antenna is bright metal, which on subsequent models was quickly changed to a dark finish. The chassis used paper capacitors, which match the schematic in the T.O. for the “A” model. Many capacitors were defective and replaced or bypassed with modern capacitors. Both the microphone and the earphone elements were open and were replaced with commercial units, but the bakelite caps were retained. Despite all the repairs, repainting, and replacements made over its 80 years, it’s still a rare example of the first generation BC-611 handie talkie. This BC-611-A is in working condition and tuned up on 3885 Mhz. Included is a battery replacement of my design (dozens sold), which powers the BC-611from 4 D-cells. Batteries are not included!
