Description: Since the inception of the Canadian Navy in 1910 Canada followed the British tradition of issuing good conduct badges to sailors who has completed a certain number of years of service. They were worn just below the rank badge on the left sleeve of the uniform jumper, blue or white. The first badge (chevrons, hooks or stripes in appearance) represented 3 years of service. The 2nd stripe meant 8, the 3rd was 13 years of undetected crime as the joke went. These badges were worn with the old uniform right up to 1968 and are a large 6" wide. They would have been worn on the jumper as well as the great coat. Good conduct badges brought with them a small raise in pay, could be withdraw in recognition of poor behavior and re-granted for good behavior. Depending on the severity of the offense one stripe could be removed or all of them. Good luck bidding and thanks for looking at another auction from The Mighty Atom.
