Description: Antique Silverplate Figural Napkin Ring PEAR LEAF American Victorian This figural napkin ring in silver plate depicts a large pear on a branch with leaves, sitting on a large leaf with tiny ant on it. I could not find a mark on bottom but it is exactly like a napkin ring made by Hartford Silver Plate company and also one by Barbour #2902. Base is approx 3"x 4". Napkin rings, also called serviette rings, were an invention of the wealthy European class. They first appeared in France circa 1800. Used to identify one's napkin between washings, they were unique (not matching), and often had a figural element.Lovely vintage item, one of several listed from same collection, easy to combine for shipping.
