Direct from France to us, this exquisite hand carved “work of art”, almost 6 ft. in length!!! The details are amazing, with birds sitting across the upper ledge, surrounded by carved floral, foliage and vines that overhang FOUR separate carved scene panels….and what a story the panels tell!! There are dancing maidens, oxen, knights with a fair lady in front of a castle, a townsman hiding in a barrel, and Romanesque knight with a sword!!! Also note the band of carved flowers in the middle of the cobblestone carved platform that features a hidden drawer. This is one of the most intriguing finds from our most recent French shipment, and certain to be a conversation piece in any home, with its large size and stunning design. Imagine it over a fireplace or as the focal point in a bookcase or on a sideboard. Excellently crafted by a master carver in the late 1800s/turn of the century, possibly as a top piece to a large cabinet or armoire. The center panel is inscribed “D.
