Description: Antique French Engraving, Hand Colored with Gum Arabic Highlights, “Pérou. Arrieros. Danse d’Indiens Aymaras”, for the Series “Voyages autour du monde et naufrages célèbres”, by Gabriel Lafond de Lurcy, 1840’s As indicated underneath the image, this plate was printed by Drouart, 11 rue du Fouarre in Paris and is an illustration from the series in eight volumes, “Voyages autour du monde et naufrages célèbres” (Voyages around the world and famous shipwrecks), published in the 1840’s by Captain Gabriel Lafond de Lurcy (1802-1876), an officer in the French navy. It is hand colored and highlighted with gum arabic for texture and increased color saturation. The engraving is titled “Pérou. Arrieros. Danse d’Indiens Aymaras”. It shows two “arrieros” (or muleteers) watching Aymaras people dancing on a high plateau in Peru. The engraving is in very good condition apart from some yellowing and stains on the edges. This piece will be an excellent addition to your collection of prints or a handsome decorative piece on your wall.
