Description: An antique bronze poche vide, or pin tray, or dish, in the shape of a bat. This tray is unmarked, but its design is identical to the small bat-shaped trays that were manufactured by Bradley & Hubbard in Meriden, CT, and P.E. Guerin in New York City during the final quarter of the nineteenth century. While it is not unusual to find a tray without any text, more often than not, these bat trays were cast with the name of a business or a fraternal society in raised letters across the bat's outstretched wings. This tray bears no such inscription, allowing the golden light glinting off the bronze to reveal fine details of the cast bat's furry body and veined wings. Bronze, 4 3/16" x 2 5/8", 4.3 oz. or 122 g Excellent Condition, no flaws or defects; a very fine cast with exceptional details.
