Possibly reaching its peak in the late 1960’s, roller skating was an identifiable phenomenon in the United States. It grew to such a point that it was a culture unto itself. An entire social structure was created around this participatory sport entertainment. Roller skating rinks were all over the country, and became a serious place for social interaction for children up through adults. By the early 1970’s this phenomenon was waning, and is now unrecognizable for what it once was. With the post-WW 2 boom in optimism, general business, and roller skating, rinks produced stickers like this, and in time people started collecting and trading them with other roller skating enthusiasts. By 1948 the Universal Roller Skating Sticker Exchange / URSSE was started as a formal organization for roller skating sticker collectors. But with the waning interest roller skating, 1989 was the last year of its existence. It disbanded in it last meeting then in Cornwell Heights, PA.
