The Tazewell portions were edited by Ben C. Allensworth. The 54-page spiral bound booklet is printed one-sided on 60# 8.5" x 11" paper. A vinyl sheet has been added to protect the front cover. The booklet begins with the Black Hawk Indian War of 1832, including an account of Stillman's Defeat, and then moves on to the Mexican War of 1846 and Company G of the 4th Illinois Volunteers, with names of officers. A large part of the booklet, of course, deals with the Civil War, beginning on the home front with resolutions supporting the union, bounties offered to volunteers, and a County Sanitary Fair held to raise funds to alleviate the suffering of soldiers and help their families during their absence. The county furnished 200 soldiers for the Spanish American war in 1898, membrs of Company K and Company G of the Fifth Illinois Regiment. Names of membrs of Company G are given. Following this overview, there is a lengthy list of Civil War soldiers from the county by regiment, with brief regimental histories.
