Description: Re: 1969 Cubs Game Worn Road jersey-worn by Dick Selma COA included Beautiful and RARE example of the 1969 game worn road jersey. This amazing jersey has the 100th Anniversary Centennial patch present. It is not original to the jersey but it is embroidered and vintage and original to the 1969 period. Bill Henderson ( The Dream Shop-See certification in Photos ) kindly and expertly restored this gorgeous gamer for me by replacing the " 62" number back to Selma's game worn "39" in 1969. The neck tagging, wash instructions label and Cubby bear on the shoulder is original to the jersey. The jersey undershirt as pictured in my display case is NOT included. Richard Jay Selma (November 4, 1943 – August 29, 2001) was a professional baseball player who played pitcher in the Major Leagues from 1965 to 1974. He played for the New York Mets, Chicago Cubs, San Diego Padres, Philadelphia Phillies, California Angels, and Milwaukee Brewers during his 10-year major league career. Selma was very key all season with the starting and relief pitching effort in 1969 . The Cubs eventually fell to the eventual World Series champs Mets and lost the division. Selma did become famous, for a time, for leading the 1969 Bleacher Bums in chants, from his seat in the bullpen, as recounted in the Tribune in 2001:One day in June, manager Leo Durocher sent Selma down to the bullpen to exhort the fans in the left-field bleachers. In 1969 bleacher seats were cheap, unreserved and more prized than box seats. Fans came before dawn, sat in line until the gates opened at 9 a.m. and crowded into the best open seats. In the spirit of the times, the everyday fans organized into a nascent group now familiar to all--the Bleacher Bums. Wearing long hair and construction helmets, they drank beer, jeered the opposition and roused Wrigley Field to cheer the Cubs. That day everything was set as Selma picked up a towel and began waving it over his head. The Bums went nuts. Soon the whole park was going crazy, and Selma began waving the towel whenever the Cubs needed a rally. Fedex 2-day delivery. Thank you for viewing my listing.
