Description: 1956 GREEN BAY PACKERS Rare Sportsfilms, Inc. is the rights owner of this DVD The Green Bay Packers pulled off two big upsets in 1956, knocking the Lions temporarily out of first place with a 24-20 win in a second half Thanksgiving Day snowstorm at Detroit, and then killed the Cardinals’ Eastern Division hopes with a 24-21 victory in Chicago. However 1956 was a disappointing season, especially after head coach Lisle Blackbourn’s club had shown improvement with a break-even 6-6 record in 1955. In ’56, the Pack went back to its losing ways of the early ‘50’s, winning only four games. Nevertheless, changes were taking place that would help shape the club in the coming decade. The Packers said goodbye to old City Stadium by losing to the 49’ers, and would be moving into new City Stadium in ’57 (later to be officially named Lambeau Field). A young rookie out of Alabama named Bart Starr also made his debut at quarterback, spelling starter Tobin Rote on occasion. The Packers loss at Los Angeles in the last game of the season tied them with the Rams for last place in the Western Conference for 1956. This rare DVD is narrated by Jim Leaming and covers the highlights of all 12 games of the 1956 Packer season. The 51-minute B & W film has now been restored to like-new condition and brings back great memories and the feel of Packer football at old City Stadium and at new County Stadium, Milwaukee. Great shots throughout the DVD also show action from road games at other old ballparks that were the homes for several NFL teams during the 1950’s: Comiskey Park, Briggs Stadium, Wrigley Field, Kezar Stadium, etc. In addition to Rote, you'll also see other Packer players in nice close-up shots, most taken during pre-game warm-ups, such as ends Gary Knafelc and Billy Howton, halfback Al Carmichael and defensive backs Val Joe Walker and Bobby Dillon. Also shown throughout the season are Joe Johnson, Fred Cone, Howie Ferguson, Breezy Reid, Bill Forester, Dick Deschaine and many more, including two rookies: highly touted Jack Losch and young QB Bart Starr!
