Description: 1890’s Antique Photogravure The Three Fates by Paul Thumann 25" x 18.5" Framed, bought in an Antique Shop by my Mom It depicts The Fates, who presided over the destinies of man, were Clotho, who held the distaff and spun our the thread of life, Lachesis, who drew it out, and Atropos, who with her shears, cut it off. This photogravure is after a painting by Paul Thumann, ca 1890. It is printed on heavy, good quality paper. The ink is rich and velvety. Paul Thumann was a German 19th Century painter who was born in 1834.Paul Thumann's work has been offered at auction multiple times, with realized prices ranging from 50 USD to 6,725 USD, depending on the size and medium of the artwork. Since 2007 the record price for this artist at auction is 6,725 USD for A Woman Bathing, sold at Dorotheum, Vienna in 2020.The artist died in 1908. Because of its high quality and richness, photogravure was used for both original fine art prints in the form of photographs manipulated by various means on the negative and for photo-reproduction of works from other media such as paintings. The Fates is very old and so is the frame, Please look at all the photos to see the condition of both. See how it is framed with Wood behind the print and nails to hold it in. The Frame is not in good condition - deteriorating on edges, the Print still looks good, the edges of the paper has some discoloration.
