First edition. Fine full leather binding has been rebacked. Though this is stated to be Volume I, it was the only volume published. Lacks the original folding map titled “County Explored by John C. Frémont,” however a quality facsimile printed on glossy paper stock is included. Made sure to see the photos for complete details. Binding shows wear as pictured, including rubbing and soiling to the boards and spine, light chipping to the leather, general wear around the extremities including bumping to the corners and spine extremes, and light rubbing and soiling to the full gilt page edges. Otherwise this is an attractive, well-preserved antique volume! Sturdy and square! The gilt title lettering displays handsomely from the shelf. Internally, this volume is in great shape as well. Both boards and all page groupings remain attached to the binding. Note that the front hinge has been reinforced. There are no bookplates, signatures, inscriptions, or library markings to note. The text block of this volume is very clean throughout. There is typical age-related toning to the pages, as well as some minor foxing and soiling scattered throughout, and some general light edge wear in spots. Otherwise very clean and perfectly readable throughout. Profusely illustrated.
