How to Season a Pan 1. Thoroughly wash your new cast iron pan in hot water. 2. Place the pan in your preheated oven for a few minutes before continuing to make sure that it is completely dry. 3. Coat the grill/griddle with grease or oil. (Do this with the whole pan, not just the cooking surface, to reduce the possibility of external rust.) 4. Bake your pan in a 350 degrees oven for an hour. 5. Let the pan cool, and wipe off any excess oil.
