Description: You are buying 10+ semi-hardwood cuttings (Unrooted) of Nanking Cherry. USDA zones 3 to 9. Each cutting is at 6-7 inches (150-180mm) in length, pruned to 2-3 leaves with a diameter of about 1/8" to 1/4". (3 to 6mm) Cuttings are fresh cut from a mature Nanking Cherry bush after order, and shipped in moist newspaper. Rooting Instructions There are many methods to root cuttings, this has worked well for me with a 60-80% success rate and accessible to everyone with minimal prep. Can be done in summer, fall, or winter (indoors). 1. Immediately after receiving, open package and place cutting ends in cup of water. Recut cutting ends at 45° angle as with flowers. Soak for at least an hour.2. Prepare a 1 gallon or larger pot with sterile potting mix and top with vermiculite, water well. 3. Dip the cuttings in rooting hormone and plant 1/2 their length in the potting mix. Helpful to use a pencil to make holes first. 4. Plant 2 to 4 cuttings per pot, may be helpful to spray with anti-fungal spray if available. Top cuttings with a cutoff two liter soda bottle. 5. Place in bright indirect light outside or south facing window inside. If inside, or in winter, supplemental light will increase success rate. Water as needed to keep moist 6. Cuttings should root in 8-10 weeks. Indication of new leaf growth. Slowly harden off. Can be kept in pots for a season or planted with protection from rabbits and deer. If planted indoors in winter, wait until last frost to harden off outside. Happy planting!
