TITLE: OPERATOR AND AVIATION UNIT AND INTERMEDIATE SUPPORT MAINTENANCE MANUAL MODULAR ENGINE TEST SYSTEM (MODEL LTCT10465-02) - 22 JANUARY 1979; Change 5, 30 September 1992 SCOPE. a. This manual provides operating and Aviation Intermediate Support Maintenance instructions for personnel on the Modular Engine Test System, (METS), Part No. LTCT10465-02. The METS is used to test the T53L-5, -9, -11 and -13 turboshaft; the T53L-7 and -15 turboprop; the T55L-7 and -11 turboshaft, the T63A5A and A-700 turboshaft; the T74 turboprop; the T73CPCP- 700 and CP-702 turboshaft, and the T700-GE-700, -701, and -701C turboshaft gas turbine engines in detail. b. This manual applies only to the METS engine test trailer assembly, auxiliary trailer assembly and engine accessories. Detailed instructions for operation, testing and maintenance of engines tested by METS are given in the applicable technical manuals. DETERMINING COMPONENT LOCATION. Figure 1-1 illustrates the set-up of the METS. The forward end of the engine test trailer is determined by the location of the engine test deck. The forward end of the auxiliary trailer is determined by the location of the water tank. The forward end of the engine test dolly is determined by the location of the mount ring. Directions are expressed as viewed from the aft end of each trailer, the engine dolly and each engine. FORMS AND RECORDS. Maintenance forms, records and reports which are to be used by maintenance personnel at all maintenance levels are listed in and prescribed by DAPAM 738-751 DESCRIPTION. The following text provides a complete physical and functional description of the METS trailer assemblies and engine accessories (kits). The order of breakdown in the descriptive text begins with the complete system. Following this description, a logical descriptive sequence progresses from each trailer assembly to the trailer module and to the modular systems and individual system components. Included within each portion of descriptive text are supporting illustrations. Tables 1-1 and 1-2 depicts and identifies the electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic symbology used in the schematic diagrams. a. METS System Capability. The modular engine test system provides the basic interchangeable components or modules for use in two distinct mission objectives: Aviation Intermediate Maintenance and Training. METS affords a means of performing complete testing of the engines listed in paragraph 1-1, following maintenance or repair and before returning the engine to service, thereby increasing engine availability by eliminating the need to return engines to an overhaul facility. b. Transportability. The modules which compose the system are easily removed and each trailer assembly, with all components installed, can be transported by C- 130 aircraft or helicopters. c. Engine Accessories. In addition to the engine test trailer assembly and auxiliary trailer assembly, engine accessories designed specifically for each engine model to be tested are required. The engine accessories are described in detail beginning with paragraph 1-4f. d. Test Trailer Assembly. The test trailer assembly (figure 1-2) consists of the test trailer module, a control cab assembly, and engine test dolly assembly and two ground cable assemblies. The test trailer assembly contains the necessary controls and instrumentation for checking engine performance under various power and load settings. The controls also permit remote operation of the auxiliary trailer and the engine being tested, and control of engine power absorption devices (water brake assemblies). The test trailer instrumentation indicates all engine test parameters including: compressor rotor (NI), speed and power turbine rotor (NII) speed, fuel pressure and consumption, Change 5
